Are you an advanced handbell ringer with the talent, ambition, and the commitment to join one of Virginia's elite ringing ensembles? The Virginia Handbell Consort wants you!
Auditions are held annually in January, however auditions to fill vacant positions may be arranged during the concert year.
Audition dates are announced on the VHC News pageAuditions are conducted by the Music Director, and consist of four main sections:
- A written questionnaire covering personal background and basic handbell notation.
- Rhythm exercises.
- Ensemble ringing. All auditionees will be asked to ring a given selection. Sightreading, proper form and technique will be judged.
- A conversation with the Musical Director and a designated member of the Board of Directors about the group's expectations.
Successful applicants are required to commit to at least one concert year, including regular Saturday rehearsals (3 hours) and all concert appearances. Rehearsals are held February through June and August through December.
Auditions for the 2011 concert seasons will be held in January 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Hampton.
